Sand dunes shifting on the whim of the wind, unlikely plants like the pincushion cactus and strange creatures like the hognose snake cause one to wonder....Manitoba? This is the truly unique Spirit Sands. Within minutes you're staring down at an eerie blue-green oasis of spruce trees and a spring-fed pond. This is the Devils Punch Bowl.

Imagine a land as rich in heritage as it is in wheat. A land where the horizon stretches on seemingly forever, where the sky is vast and blue, and where every sunset is an occasion to remember. Now imagine yourself here - in Southwestern Manitoba.
Southwestern Manitoba remains today, as it has been for thousands of years, an inviting and abundant land, full of promise and prosperity. It was the promise of the land which drew the first Native inhabitants hunting bison, the first explorers like la Verendrye, and later the fur traders and coureurs de bois.

The CATP Museum is a non-profit, charitable organization founded and operated by volunteers. The Museum is dedicated to the preservation of the history of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and serves as a unique memorial to those airmen who trained and served, and especially those who died, while serving their country in the air war of 1939-1945. This is the only Museum in the world dedicated solely to this goal and we think it is fitting that it is located in Manitoba where so much of the training was carried out. At the time the Plan was signed in December 1939, Canada had only 4,000 people in the Royal Canadian Air Force but enrollment reached 250,000 by the end of 1943.
